Sea
Safari III
is a 35m (115ft) wooden, Indonesian Pinisi-rigged Bugis Schooner
constructed in 1997. Blending in perfectly with the environment,
these boats are the most impressive fleet of wooden sailing vessels
still in normal commercial work. The builders of Pinisi ships have
strong animistic beliefs and spiritual roots that combine with their
ancient construction techniques in a way of life that has changed
little in centuries and which they believe will bring them prosperity
and harbor them from any evil well into the future. These local
traditions have been combined with interior designing and dive equipment
to meet the specifications of a first class liveaboard.
Constructed
with three decks the Sea Safari III gives you plenty of space
to lose oneself; whether it is in the air-conditioned comfort of
the large saloon or lazing under the shade of one of the ship’s
huge sails. The 13 cabins have individual air-conditioning units
and bathrooms, are teak wood-paneled and furnished using locally
crafted wall hangings and artifacts from throughout the Indonesian
Archipelago. The cabins provide a welcome sanctuary after a day
filled with exciting dives where one can kickback and annotate dive
logs or just catch up on a good novel.
